about

Saddle up folks, “Grand Opening”, the debut EP from 6 piece trash can country troupe HONK is being released by Fuzzkill Records on August 5th.

This ramshackle group, made of first timers and DIY veteran players, came together after a Christmas karaoke performance gone right. Learning to play their instruments on the job leaves a slack togetherness that makes for a dangerous and exciting runaway mine train of a live show.

Lead single, Let The Dog See The Rabbit is a song that echoes itself while in search of something else. “It’s about being trapped at the eternal afters” says singer Chip Smitten.
Creeping keys, rambunctious guitars and swinging lap steel sounds over a primitive beat areheld together with Smitten’s raw growl and gang vocals.

Smitten says of explosive punk track Rat Party, “It’s the resurrection of a 9 year olds poem, still RATtling on 20 years later, it’s about tearing up the town.”

Grand Opening could be either a 21 minute lament to the roots of rock ’n’ roll or an exploration of a genre by people who’ve never heard it. Either way, DO call them country.

Based in Manchester and coming from Dublin, Durham and a few spots in-between, let me
introduce you to HONK:
Chip Smitten - Born in Pity Me, no need to pity he (Vocals and harmonica)
Randy ‘Steel’ Harrison - Son of a welder, this Yorkshire outlaw’s got steel in his veins (Lap
steel and vocals)
Yeehaw aka Calamity Hane - The boisterous Wild West Heroine who dresses like a man
helps bring the honky tonk attraction from Dublin to the Deadwood stage (keys and vocals)
The Saint - She’s heaven sent and hell bent straight outta the Wild West Midlands (Bass)
Woody - This Rochdale rodeo runaway is slinging shots and hard licks (Guitar and vocals)
The Real Red Foley - Accept no 1910-1968 imitation, this Irish rebel grrrl is the real deal
(Drums)
